Silent Days, Silent DreamsSilent Days, Silent Dreams by Allen Say
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Caldecott Medalist Allen Say creates a luscious imagined biography of artist James Castle, tells the story of a deaf, mute, dyslexic, autistic man who never learned to read or write.

This picture book frames Castle’s silent world. Say’s powerful illustrations in Castle’s primitive style help the reader see and actually feel how Castle made sense of the world around him.

As an untrained artist myself, I am inspired to simply create for creation’s sake, both as a way to figure out my own world, but also to communicate thoughts and feelings I carry inside.
